Why do we write in dedication to, in response to, or as echo of other works of art? What are the risks of doing so? AFTER seeks to amplify the new wave of ekphrastic writings and art in search of what the tradition might offer to our current artistic concerns and interests as well as highlight the innovative approaches that address the ethical challenges of the tradition. The winner and finalists will be announced in November 2023.ĪFTER explores the tradition of ekphrastic writing and art in the contemporary moment.A list of semi-finalists, selected by members of Gasher's staff, will be forwarded to the final judge, Cavar, for the selection of a winner and finalists.Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please withdraw your submission if it is accepted elsewhere.We will disqualify all duplicate submissions. Do not withdraw a submission in order to resubmit. You may not edit your piece after its submission. Do not include any identifying information on the document of the poem.Submit ONLY 1 unpublished poem on any subject/theme with a brief author bio.Writers cannot yet have published a full-length book of any genre (chapbooks and self-publishing okay).This may include those who identify as non-binary, genderqueer, agender, trans-masc, trans-femme, bigender, two spirit, gender fluid, or intersex people. This prize is reserved for writers who identify as a trans writer.Cavar's debut novel, Failure to Comply, is forthcoming with featherproof books (2024). They are editor-in-chief of Stone of Madness press, and their work can be found in CRAFT Literary, Split Lip Magazine, Electric Lit, and elsewhere. Cavar is a PhD candidate, writer, and critically Mad transgender-about-town. We are pleased to announce this year's final judge is Cavar. The prize consists of $500, 10 limited edition letterpress broadsides of the winning poem, and a feature in the upcoming issue of Gasher Journal. and lives in Santa Fe, NM.The Bennett Nieberg Transpoetic Broadside Prize awards a single poem written by a trans poet who has yet to publish their first full-length book. She works as a Life Coach and as an editor with Shiversong LLC. She has been published in numerous journals and anthologies and reads for Tinderbox Poetry Journal. Her first book of poetry, A Map of Every Undoing, will be published in the fall of 2022 by Stillhouse Press with George Mason University. Alicia Elkort (she/her) has been nominated thrice for the Pushcart, twice for Best of the Net and once for the Orisons Anthology.
